5 Must Haves to Soften Dry Skin

How to Make Your Skin Smooth

I was dealing with some severe dry skin- a kind that I’d never had before. I’m so thankful that I discovered some products that actually work and helped me overcome that dry skin relatively quickly. I want to share with you in case you find yourself struggling with the same thing. Try these and let me know if they work for your skin too!

1. Drink More Fluids

The first thing I did was get serious about my fluid intake, particularly water. I decided to get back to committing to drinking at least 64 oz of filtered water every day. This allows my body to be hydrated from the inside out. The water hydrates my skin to help combat dryness.

I bought a new water bottle to keep myself motivated and track my progress and it has been helping. It has a handle, a shoulder strap, and a pocket for my phone which makes it easy to bring my water with me. I love it. This is the water bottle I’m currently using.

In addition to drinking 64 oz of water a day, I drink additional fluids. I usually enjoy a cup of Teecino Herbal Coffee in the morning or night. Pumpkin Spice or Java in the morning or Dark Chocolate at night are my favorites. I also will sometimes include a glass of Liquid I.V. for added electrolytes and hydration, especially on the days that work out.

2. Use Exfoliating Gloves & Brush

In order to tackle the dry skin head-on, was I started to exfoliate. I bought exfoliating gloves that I now use during every shower. They gently rub away dry skin and doing this every day helps me prevent it from coming back. I’ve been using Native deodorant for over a year now, and I LOVE it, so I decided to try their body wash.

During my shower, I first wash with my washcloth and Costco Shea Butter Soap. Then, I slip on my exfoliating gloves and use my Native Vanilla and Cactus Flower Body Wash. This body wash is formulated to hydrate the skin. The fragrance smells so good, soft, and feminine that it’s like aroma therapy for me! I’m a little disappointed that it’s a limited-edition fragrance. I may have to stock up.

If my feet are feeling dry, I use my Body Bath Brush. It has bristles and nodes and is pretty rough to me which is perfect for the feet. I don’t use this every day, but it is very useful when my feet need some good exfoliation to help soften the skin.

3. Use a Good-Quality Razor

Investing in a good razor has also helped me improve the texture of my skin. I decided to try to the Gillette Venus ComfortGlide Razor and I’m so glad I did! It gives me a nice close shave which leaves my skin super smooth! It’s the best to get in the bed with smooth legs and enjoy the feeling against clean bed sheets!

Since using this razor, I’ve noticed my shave lasts longer than with a cheaper razor. I was also starting to have a bit of a “strawberry leg” appearance which disappeared since changing my razor. The razor has two gel bars which allow you to shave without shaving cream. My legs and arms feel beautifully soft and smooth after I use this razor!

*Note: Since writing this article, I’ve learned that this particular brand has values that do not align with Christian Conservative values. Therefore, if you are a believer as I am, you may want to consider looking for a different brand to support as I will be doing also.

4. 100% Pure African Shea Butter

I usually love using body butter after my showers, but in an effort to achieve dry skin, I decided to try something different. I tried 100% Pure African Shea Butter and fell in love! I’ll admit that I had to adjust to the texture, it’s not as soft as a body butter, but this Shea Butter gets the job done!

I love how it leaves my skin soft, supple, and glowy. It is the icing on the cake after completing the other things in my routine that I previously mentioned. I love using this Shea Butter and I even started using it on my daughter and my husband. It’s great for your skin and your hair! To top it off, I got it for a good price! I highly recommend it!

5. Dr. Bronners Organic Lip Balm-Peppermint

Now that we’ve taken care of the skin on our body, it’s time to address our lips. You and I both know that dry lips are a real thing. Especially in the winter! Staying hydrated by drinking water will help with this, however, a good lip balm will also get the job done.

My all-time favorite lip balm is the Dr. Bronners Organic Lip Balm in the flavor peppermint. I love this lip balm! It’s not sticky, it’s highly moisturizing and helps me prevent dry lips. The peppermint smell and flavor are a huge plus and I love that it’s organic!

Another favorite is the FitGlow Night Lip Serum. It’s a higher-end product, but it’s a really great moisturizing gloss!

We Softened Our Skin, Now Let’s Soften Our Hearts

Just as we desire to have soft, supple, smooth skin we should also desire our hearts to be softened before the Lord- a tender heart toward God & his ways of righteous living. Throughout the Bible, God speaks about not having a hardened heart because a hardened heart interferes with our relationship with God. It prevents us from turning to Him and allowing Him to heal and work in us.

For the hearts of these people are hardened,

    and their ears cannot hear,

and they have closed their eyes—

    so their eyes cannot see,

and their ears cannot hear,

    and their hearts cannot understand,

and they cannot turn to me

    and let me heal them.’[a]

Matthew 13:15 NLT

God wants us to have a new heart, a softened heart of flesh, so we can be sensitive to his voice. A tender heart allows us to hear, see, and understand God’s word in a way that will transform us and change our lives for the better.

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.[a] Ezekiel 36:26 NLT
