Day 53 Leviticus 26-27 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 53 Leviticus 26-27

These are the final chapters in the book of Leviticus. Here we see the LORD wrap up His conversation with Moses by laying down the expectations and the blessings and curses that accompany obedience and disobedience. We see that faithfulness to God is essential, and it leads to blessings. God tells Israel that He will discipline them if they are disobedient. This is the same as a parent who disciplines a wayward or rebellious child. This discipline includes five progressive phases of punishment, which result in desolation and exile from the land. God is merciful; however, He provides an opportunity for the people to repent and turn back to Him, and when they do, the punishments do not progress to the next phase. He is committed to His covenant with the Israelites. He loves them. We also see how everyone makes contributions to the sanctuary. The Levites serve, and everyone else pays their vows to ensure the sanctuary is cared for. This is also the first time we see a mention of the tithe. It is one-tenth of their income. A donation that they give to provide for the Levites and for the maintenance of the sanctuary.

Today’s takeaway:

  • God deals with everyone according to their situation. God cares for us, and He understands each individual’s life circumstances. He deals with each person based on His knowledge of the situation, just as He made accommodations for the Israelites who were poor. While He made accommodations, everyone was still held to His standards and expectations. This means that our obedience is still required regardless of how dire the circumstances may be.
