4 Essential Tips for Raising a Peaceful Christian Family

Raising a peaceful Christian family in today's fast-paced world can be rewarding yet challenging. Here are some practical strategies we can implement to make the journey much easier. Grab a notebook and take notes on these five tips for raising a peaceful Christian family. It’s time to cultivate a home filled with faith, love, and peace.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

1. Prioritize Prayer and Devotion Together

Prayer is the cornerstone of a peaceful Christian home. Set aside time every day for family prayer and even devotionals. This can be a short morning prayer together, saying grace before a meal, or praying with your husband and little ones before bedtime.

It can include a bible study or devotional with your husband and/or teaching your children God’s word through storytime. Use this precious time to thank God for His blessings, seek guidance, and pray for each other’s needs. This time together strengthens the bonds within the family unit and fosters peace within the home as you draw close to God together.

Consider starting your day with a personal morning quiet time before the rest of your family wakes up. Quiet time in a morning routine is one of my favorite things so I wrote a whole article about it with a free guide if you haven’t established a morning routine yet.

TAKE ACTION: Create a family prayer journal or prayer wall where everyone can write their prayers and reflect on how God has answered them.

…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 NKJV

2. Model Christ-like Behavior

Children learn by observing their parents. Demonstrate Christ-like behavior in your daily interactions. Show kindness, patience, and forgiveness toward others. Work to handle conflicts calmly and respectfully. Your actions will teach your little ones how to exhibit these values in their own lives.

The only way your children will know what Christ-like behavior looks like is if you model it within your home. As parents, it’s important that we verbally teach these behaviors, but we must live it and walk it out before them.

TAKE ACTION: Discuss biblical examples of Christ-like behavior during family discussions to reinforce these values. You can have these kinds of conversations at dinner, after watching a movie, or before bedtime.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Ephesians 5:1-2

3. Create a Peaceful Environment

Your home environment plays a significant role in cultivating peace. Maintaining a tidy and organized home reduces stress and chaos. You can incorporate calming elements by playing soft music, inspirational décor, and a designated quiet place for relaxation and prayer.

TAKE ACTION: Practice creating a peaceful evening routine by playing relaxing music after dinner. Try worship, jazz, or instrumentals to set a tranquil mood in your home.

The Lord will give strength to His people;

The Lord will bless His people with peace.

Psalm 29:11 NKJV

4. Engage in Acts of Service

Serving others is a great way to teach and experience peace. Participate in acts of service as a family. You can volunteer at church, help a neighbor, or support a charitable cause. Serving together strengthens family bonds and instills a sense of purpose and compassion.

This practice will teach your little ones the value of serving others. When they develop a giving heart, they will understand that the world doesn’t revolve around them. Such an understanding is a stepping stone for cultivating patience which makes for more peaceful moments at home.

TAKE ACTION: Choose service projects (e.g. donating items or volunteering at a shelter) that are suitable for your children’s ages and interests to keep them engaged and enthusiastic.

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13b
