Are you curious about what the Bible has to say about sexual purity? Society is constantly glorifying sex and giving the illusion that sexual sin has no consequences. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Let’s take a look at sexual purity scriptures and consider virginity from a biblical perspective.

What is Virginity?

Virginity is defined as the state of never having had sexual intercourse. This has always been the definition of the word since the beginning. However, now we find people trying to redefine sex and virginity.

Their man-made definitions and points of view regarding this topic do not line up with God’s word. It completely opposes it.

As Bible-believing Christians, the word of God must be the final authority in our lives. God designed sexual intercourse to be between a man and a woman within the context of a marriage covenant. Virginity is valuable to God and He instructs His people to flee from sexual sin.

Throughout the Bible, we can observe the value of virginity. Both the Old and New Testaments encourage sexual purity for God’s glory.

Of course, there is forgiveness for anyone who has made a mistake in the past and comes before the Lord with a pure heart. You can repent and be forgiven as with other sins. According to the Bible sexual immorality is a sin.

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

Sexual Purity is Important to God

Marriage and sexual intimacy are an earthly representation of our covenant and intimacy with God.

We should be working to establish a relationship with our Heavenly Father. We are to be in covenant, fully trusting, and unashamed to come before Him. We must not allow our hearts to be consumed with other people and things that will pull us away from Him.

For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:2

Society is trying to redefine sex as something that means different things to different people. However, this is false. God created sex and He is the only one who gets to define it and He already has.

God doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So just because the world is constantly changing doesn’t mean God will change what He has already established. Spoiler alert, He isn’t going to do that.

As we raise our children, we must teach them God’s standards. He values sexual purity.

Followers of Christ must not be deceived by the lies of this world. Sexual purity is what God desires of His people. We can see that throughout scripture. We must encourage those who are virgins and abstinent before marriage.

Raise your children to understand God’s heart in this area of their lives. Help them understand that they aren’t the only ones in the world who desire to please God. This is a common lie that the enemy likes to present to people, but there will always be a remnant.

We cannot settle for the world’s standards. God’s way is always the best way. So, here are some sexual purity scriptures to make note of.

Final Thoughts on Sexual Purity Scriptures

God is a holy God and He desires that His people are pure. He sent His son Jesus to earth to die on the cross so that we can be saved and cleansed by His blood. We can be made clean and pure before God because of the redemptive work of Christ. We can rely on the Holy Spirit and the instruction of God’s word to help us walk in sexual purity before the Lord.

For those who are married, this means honoring the marriage bed and keeping it undefiled. This includes fleeing adultery and the like. For those who are single, this means fleeing fornication and other forms of sexual immorality.
