Day 121: 2 Samuel 5, 1 Chronicles 11-12
Today’s passages may seem a bit repetitive because we are reading the same story from a different perspective. As you read 2 Samuel 5 and 1 Chronicles 11, I encourage you to see if you can spot the differences between the two. The details are different. We learn a lot about David and his mighty men of war.
The thing that really spoke to me is found in 1 Chronicles 12. David’s men were loyal to him, but that’s not all. It is evident that God sent provision, and He gave David everything and everyone he needed to fulfill the call on his life as king of Israel. The LORD made sure that David was equipped. David was not perfect! He was great about inquiring of the LORD in battle, but he was pretty weak and independent of God when it came to women and wives. So God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. But Scripture also says that David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22). That’s what God wants- our heart, our yes, our obedience, our faithfulness. God sent men from all over Israel, 340,000–350,000 warriors! These men were dedicated, well-equipped, skilled, and dedicated to transitioning the kingdom from Saul to David! Scripture even mentions abundant provisions of food (1 Chronicles 12:40) that were brought from the soldiers' relatives and neighbors from the nearby tribes of Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali! Incredible! That is the God we serve! Jehovah Jireh! Our provider!
