Day 102
1 Samuel 15-17
Today, we read about the fall of Saul as a result of his pride and disobedience. Chapter 15, verse 10 says that God regrets making Saul king. Chapter 15:29 says that God does not lie or have regrets. In order to make sense of this, it is important to understand that the word regret means to feel sorrow or to grieve.
Another tough passage to understand is 1 Samuel 16:14, which says that a harmful spirit from the LORD tormented Saul. It’s important to understand that God does not do evil. He is perfect and holy. He can, however, allow demonic spirits to do things and allow evil to be present since we do live in a fallen, wicked, and sinful world as a result of what happened in the Garden of Eden. In this case, Saul rejected and disobeyed God, so God’s spirit left him. Saul was also prideful. When humans choose to live this way, they open themselves up to demonic oppression and even possession. This is what happened with Saul. He opened himself up to demonic torment as a result of rejecting the LORD.
One thing to remember is that the Word of God is God-breathed, without error (inerrant). and infallible. When you come across tough passages that are hard to understand, pray and ask God for understanding, wisdom, and revelation. Dig deeper, research, and study the scriptures using solid biblical references and study tools.
