Day 98 1 Samuel 1-3
1 Samuel begins with a woman named Hannah who is barren and deeply desires a son. Not only does she ask the LORD for a son, but she also vows to dedicate him back to the LORD. She makes a big commitment and sticks to it. As a result, Samuel is raised up in the LORD’s house and becomes God’s chosen prophet for Israel. All of the things Samuel prophesies are fulfilled. In Hannah’s story, we see commitment and faith in God. She takes her problem to the Problem Solver, and he indeed takes care of everything for her. In addition to blessing her with Samuel, He also opens her womb and blesses her with 5 other children as well.
In today’s reading, we also read about Eli and his failure to correct his sinful sons in their hatred for God’s laws. As a result, his family is cursed, and the LORD declares that the men in their family will die young and only one will survive. This is a reminder of how important it is to raise children in the LORD, teaching them His ways, and cultivating a love for God and His Word in their hearts. As mothers, it’s so important that we prioritize discipling our children.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
