Day 89 Judges 1-2
This is the beginning of the book of Judges, which takes a turn from Israel’s faithfulness to God in Joshua. By this point, Joshua has died, and so has the second generation of Israelites. It’s evident that that generation did not teach their children about God or His goodness, ways, or laws because this new generation falls deeply into idolatry. One of the main issues that leads to this apostasy is the disobedience of the Israelites. The LORD warned them and instructed them to drive out the Canaanites from the land, but 9 tribes allowed some Canaanites to remain in their lands. What God warned them of came to pass, and the Canaanites, with their more advanced lifestyle, influenced the Israelites into serving Baal and Ashhtaroth. In their distress, they cry out to God, who is compassionate and provides judges for them, but the Israelites fall back into their sin and reject God and His judges.
