Day 85 Joshua 12-15
In today’s passages, we read about the land that Moses and Joshua conquered. God told Joshua that there was still land that needed to be conquered by Israel. Joshua was old and advanced in years, so God Himself drove out the inhabitants of the land so that Joshua could give the land to the remaining 91/2 tribes. In Joshua 13:13, we see that Israel did not attempt to drive out all the inhabitants of the land. This disobedience led to their failure in their attempt to drive out the Jebusites. Obedience is key in the life of a believer. We cannot expect the blessings and favor of God when we choose to walk in disobedience.
We also read about Caleb, who was strong in faith under the leadership of Moses, and he was still strong in faith 45 years later. As an 85-year-old man, he wanted to fight against the Anakim giants. He went forth with God’s direction and Joshua’s blessings and succeeded in taking the land. His nephew, Othniel, helped him capture one of the tough cities, so Caleb gave him his daughter, Achsah, to marry and land as a reward. Since they were given the land of the Negeb (desert), she requested springs of water, so Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. Caleb is a great example of what it looks like to follow the Lord wholeheartedly.
