Day 76 Deuteronomy 17-20 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 76 Deuteronomy 17-20

The Israelites are forbidden from worshipping other gods. If they do, there will be a trial with two witnesses before they receive the death penalty. They are also given laws concerning the day when they desire a king, like all the other nations have. This king can’t be drawn to wealth, horses/power, or women. He must remain humble and stay grounded in his trust in God, and read His word daily.

The Israelites are also forbidden from seeking mediums or fortune tellers because God has already promised to raise up a new prophet. They have direct access to God and are prohibited from seeking answers through wickedness.

Something that stands out to me is in chapter 20. Young soldiers who are engaged or have new wives, a house that hasn’t been dedicated, or a garden producing fruit, do not have to fight in war. Those who are fearful are also sent home. Fear is communicable, which means it is contagious. It can be transferred from one person to another. This is why it is so important that we guard our hearts and be mindful of who we surround ourselves with. Do not allow yourself to constantly be inundated with fear because you will find yourself fearful, and God has not given us a spirit of fear.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 1 Timothy 1:7
