Day 63 Numbers 21-22

The people complained about Moses again. This time, the LORD sent fiery serpents that bit the people, and many of them died. God is continuing His plan to wipe out the older generation by sending snakes to kill the complainers. Moses prays for them, and the LORD tells him to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole. This saved them from physical death and rescued them temporarily when they looked upon it. Jesus refers to this event in John 3:14-15. He saves us from spiritual death and eternally rescues us.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:14-15

God gives the Israelites victory over the land as they defeat King Sihon and King Og. Then King Balak of Moab, fearing Israel, asks Balaam to cast a spell on the Israelites. However, God tells Balaam not to curse Israel. This process includes Balaam’s donkey speaking to him, which God used to get Balaam in alignment with His mission.

God is sovereign, and He knows how to get our attention. Sometimes, it’s easy to feel like we can make one wrong decision and ruin God’s plans. We see today that it isn’t the case, especially when you live a life surrendered before the LORD. He knows how to guide you, just as He did, literally, with Balaam on his donkey. He knows how to get your attention and make sure you have clear instructions from Him, so trust Him.
