Day 59 Numbers 11-13 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 59 Numbers 11-13

In today’s text, the Israelites complain in their entitlement. God has been providing them Manna, yet they declare that they don’t want that anymore; they want meat. In so many words, they feel that God’s provision is no longer sufficient. Some of this could be as a result of having a mixed multitude. The escaped Egyptians among them likely encouraged the complaining since they didn’t share the same faith in God as Israel. This complaining angered God, and He responded with fire around the edge of the camp and quail. So much quail that the dead bodies were piled 3 feet high, and those who collected the smallest amount of meat still had about 1,000 2-liter bottles worth of it. God wanted them to be sick of it and realize what a gift His provision of Manna truly was.

Also, Miriam begins to instigate, gossip, and slander Moses and His choice of a wife. Moses is a very humble man, and God sticks up for Him. Miriam gets leprosy, and God says she needs to be shut outside the camp for seven days.

Lastly, Moses sends twelve spies into Canaan. However, 10 out of the 12 spies are negative and focus only on what they can’t do. They don’t trust God enough to give HIm the land He promised them. Yet, Caleb and Joshua are confident that God can and will do as He promised. Which group do you fall into? Do you focus on what is going wrong and struggle to trust God to do as He promised? Or, do you trust Him in full confidence, ready to do as He instructs you? I encourage you today to continue to spend time reading God’s Word and get to know Him more deeply so that you can trust Him, His provision for you, and His plan for your life.
