Day 56 Numbers 5-6
In chapter 5, the LORD gives instructions for how to deal with those with external impurities like leprosy, discharge, or having contact with the dead. These people were to be quarantined. For those with internal impurity, a confession, repentance, and legal restitution were required. There were also instructions given for women who were suspected of having committed adultery. Adultery itself warranted the death penalty, but those whose husbands suspected it had to take the “test” for adultery. God calls for marital purity, and this was His way of protecting innocent women.
In chapter 6, the LORD gives instructions for those taking a Nazarite vow. This vow is usually for a prearranged length of time, but in the bible, we see people like Samson, Samuel, and John the Baptist who were lifelong Nazarites. Some of the rules were that Nazarites were not allowed to drink wine or grape juice, nor eat grapes or raisins. They were not to shave their heads or go near a dead body, even if it was family. These people were to be visibly and morally set apart. The chapter concludes with God blessing the people. He wants to bless His people.
If you’ve ever struggled to believe that God wants to do good things for you, I encourage you to abandon the lie that He doesn’t. Abandon the lie that He can do it, but He won’t do it for you. He wants to bless you! He has great plans for you!
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
