Day 51 Leviticus 22-23
In today’s passage, the LORD gives directions for seven specific feasts. He reminds the Israelites about the Sabbath, which is a weekly feast and a day of solemn rest. The Passover is also known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days, the Israelites are to eat unleavened bread. The Feast of Firstfruits is also known as the Feast of Harvest. The Israelites are to bring the sheaf of the firstfruits of their harvest to the priest to wave before the LORD. The Feast of Weeks is also known as Pentecost. It occurs on the 50th day after passover. Fifty days is seven weeks and a day, so it’s a week of seven weeks. The Feast of Trumpets is also known as Rosh Hashanah. There is a memorial proclaimed with a blast of trumpets. This is a ten-day notice before the arrival of the Day of Atonement. The Day of Atonement is the most holy and solemn day. It is a day of fasting, and the Scriptures refer to this as “you shall afflict yourselves”. Absolutely no work is to be done on this day. Lastly, there is the Feast of Booths, also known as the Feast of Ingathering. The Israelites were to gather the produce of the land and celebrate the feast of the LORD for seven days. During this time, the Israelites were to dwell in booths for seven days.
Today’s takeaway:
- God enjoys celebrations and feasts. While the feasts in this passage are holy and intended for different things, we can’t overlook the fact that God enjoys celebration. Celebrations are a time of joy, and He is our ultimate source of joy. He is our good Father and wants us to enjoy the things He has blessed us with. The key is that we acknowledge His goodness and remember that He is the ultimate source of our joy and celebration. So, in the midst of God’s goodness, love, and provision, rejoice! Celebrate and give Him the glory!
Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4
