Day 50 Leviticus 19-21 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 50 Leviticus 19-21

The LORD is still speaking in Leviticus 19-21. He restates some of the 10 Commandments because the Israelites had a hard time staying focused on His commands. He instructs them to be Holy because He is holy. He instructs them to love theirneighbor as they love themselves. He teaches them how to treat one another. He also lays down some civil laws, which are societal behaviors and the corresponding punishments. He includes punishment for the sins He named in the previous chapters, like adultery, incest, homosexuality, and bestiality. He also provides regulations for the priests so that they can be holy. The priests who were considered blemished could not offer the bread of their God, not to highlight their blemish, but to emphasize God’s perfection. God reminds His people that He is the one who cleanses us up. His Holy Spirit sanctifies us.

Today’s takeaway:

  • There are three kinds of laws. In the Bible Recap, Tara-Leigh explains civil law, ceremonial law, and moral law. Civil law is societal behavior and punishment. For example, the punishment for adultery among the Israelites was death. Ceremonial law deals with cleanliness and sacrifices. Jesus fulfilled the civil and ceremonial laws. Moral laws are those that the LORD declared as right or wrong. This is unchanging. So, while those who commit adultery are no longer put to death as punishment, the sin of adultery is still sin, it’s wrong, and it displeases God. She provided an article if you’d like to explore this topic further.
