Day 47 Leviticus 11-13
Today’s reading passage begins with the LORD explaining what animals are to be considered clean and unclean. He gives them guidelines on what animals can be eaten and which animals are forbidden for consumption. Animals like pigs, camels, hares, shellfish, and birds of prey are all considered forbidden to the Israelites. Chapter 12 contains instructions for purification after childbirth. We conclude with chapter 13, which is when the LORD provides laws and instructions regarding how to handle leprosy. Leprosy was a general term used to describe a variety of skin conditions. Even in these passages, we can see God’s attention to detail and the way He cares for the well-being of His people, all while maintaining His standard of holiness.
Today’s takeaway:
- There is a purpose in everything God does. Sometimes our human minds don't understand why God instructs or does certain things. However, it's important to understand that God has a purpose for everything. In the case of Jewish Kosher food laws, many of them have been scientifically proven. Forbidden animals like pigs, birds of prey, and shellfish are often linked to higher risks of parasites, pathogens, and toxins. The consumption of blood is forbidden because it represents life. Blood leaving the body symbolized death. Scientifically, the consumption of blood increases the risk of pathogens and bacterial growth.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
