Day 46 Leviticus 8-10

Leviticus chapter eight opens up with the LORD commanding Moses to prepare for the ordination ceremony. Ordination was to be a public ceremony. Aaron and his sons needed to be purified before beginning their work of ministering before the LORD. They were anointed with oil, and their ordination meal was provided by the offerings. Then, Aaron and his sons were required to be in confinement for seven days. On the eighth day, Aaron officially began Israel’s sacrificial system. However, in chapter 10, Aaron’s oldest sons, Nadab and Abihu, laid incense and offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, which resulted in fire from the LORD consuming them, and they died. They were disobedient. Moses had to remind Aaron that everyone has to understand God’s holiness and that His commands are to be obeyed. Aaron’s youngest sons, Eleazar and Ithamar disobediently burned the part of the sin offering that they were supposed to eat due to fear of offending the LORD. The LORD was merciful and forgave them of this error.

Today’s takeaway:

• God is merciful. God knows that we as humans are imperfect with an innate sin nature. He is merciful and forgiving because He loves us and wants to be close to us. However, blatant disobedience and sin can not be tolerated. God is a holy God. He is perfect. Praise the LORD, He sent His Son, Jesus, so that we can be forgiven of our sins and receive the LORD’s mercy each day! What a gift to be undeservingly loved, forgiven, and accepted by a perfect, holy God!

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,

Because His compassions fail not.

They are new every morning;

Great is Your faithfulness.
