Day 42 Exodus 36-38
Today, we read about how God filled the craftsmen with skill and intelligence so they could build the sanctuary to His liking and according to His instructions. The Israelites continued to bring freewill offerings every morning to contribute to the work on the sanctuary/tabernacle. The craftsmen told Moses that the people were bringing much more than enough for doing the work of the Lord, so Moses instructed the people to stop. God overprovided for His people. There were seven pieces of furniture that were created for the sanctuary, and each one symbolizes our relationship with God (see bible journal photos below). They also represent the 6 days of creation, followed by a day of rest, which is represented by the six pieces and the Ark of the Covenant’s mercy seat, where God’s presence rested.
Here are some key takeaways for today:
- God is in the repetition. As a wife, mom, and homemaker, it can be easy to get used to the repetition of responsibilities. It may sometimes feel monotonous. Maybe you feel like what you’re doing isn’t holding much weight or moving the needle. The priests may have felt this way, too, when it came to their responsibilities of sacrificing animals and mixing incense before the Lord. Trust God in the day-to-day. Trust Him in the mundane. It may feel like everyone else around you is doing more, influencing more, or being more impactful. But don’t forget that even in the mundane, your work is powerful. Helping your husband, disciling your kids, and cultivating a Christ-centered tidy home are things that move the needle in God’s eyes. These are things that make a great impact for generations to come, and God is glorified. There is purpose in your work, even when you can’t see it. God is there.
- God provides. In today’s reading, we see that God overprovides for the work of the sanctuary. This is a reminder to you that in your obedience to Him, He will provide. God will give you everything you need to accomplish the work that He has assigned to you. He often uses other people to help us as well. So don’t be afraid to receive help. You don’t have to do everything on your own. You don’t have to do it all by yourself. Accept help and trust God’s provision as you honor Him in what He has instructed you to do.
