Day 41 Exodus 33-35
In today’s passage, Moses is instructed to leave Sinai and continue the journey. God informs the people that He won’t go up into the promised land with them because He might destroy them due to their sin. He still makes His presence available outside of the camp for those who desire to seek Him. The terms of the covenant are renewed, and the Israelites are reminded of them. Moses’ skin on his face began to glow because of His extended and uninterrupted time with God. The Israelites contributed willingly to the building of the tabernacle. God loves cheerful givers. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Here are some key takeaways for today:
- God is a Spirit. The Bible makes references to God’s face, arms, and back, but I want to remind you that God is a spirit. He doesn’t literally have those things. This is called anthromorphic language, which means that human concepts are being used to describe spiritual realities. So when Moses and God spoke face to face, it means they spoke openly and honestly. God’s arm refers to his power. His back refers to the amount of glory that Moses could handle. The glory that was left behind as He passed by. Almost like the remnants of His glory as he passed by, because if a human were to experience his full divine holiness, they’d be consumed.
- Pursue intimacy with God. Moses spent forty days and nights in the presence of the Lord. They spoke as friends. May this be an encouragement to you to pursue God more deeply. Draw close to Him. Abide in Him. Allow Him to transform you. When you live like this, you will shine like the stars among those in your community. You will be the light in the midst of the wickedness of this world. Not only that, you will experience peace and joy and fulfillment like never before. Everything you need is in the presence of the LORD.
- Use your gifts. The women whose hearts were stirred to do so used their skills to spin with their hands (Ex 35:25). If it’s on your heart to use your gifts to serve and help advance the work of the Lord, do it! Each of us is in a different season. While a postpartum mama of a newborn may not be stirred in her season, other seasons allow us more flexibility. If you are feeling led by the Lord to use your gifts, don’t procrastinate. Be obedient and do what He has laid on your heart to do.
