Day 40 Exodus 30-32 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 40 Exodus 30-32

In today’s text, the Israelites receive instructions for giving their census tax, directions for making a bronze basin for ritual washing, the ingredients for making holy anointing oil and incense, the importance of the Sabbath, and the creation and destruction of the golden calf. Those who didn’t repent (about 3,000 men) of their idolatry were killed by the sword. The other couple of million were forgiven. God is merciful!

Here are some key takeaways for today:

  • God equips His people. In chapter 31, God tells Moses that Oholiab and Bezalel were given the ability, wisdom, and skills to do the work He called them to. God provides the means to accomplish what He’s called you to do. When He created you, He knew what skills, passion, knowledge, etc., that you would need for your purpose. You are equipped for what God has for you. Partner with Him in everything you put your hands to and do it for His glory.

  • Trust God’s timing. The Israelites grew impatient when Moses was on the mountain with God for 40 days and 40 nights. They felt that God was taking too long, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. They asked Aaron to create an idol, a golden calf, for them. Sometimes, it may feel like God is taking longer than you’d like. It can be tempting to take matters into your own hands, but hold on a little longer. God hasn’t forgotten you, and He is making provision for you behind the scenes even when you can’t see Him working. Trust Him and trust His timing. Don’t be tempted to create a golden calf to pacify yourself while you wait.
