Day 37 Exodus 22-24
In today’s passages, we continue learning about God’s laws and ordinances for the Israelites. These laws teach them how to treat people and how to interact with one another. They include how to deal justly and fairly with one another.
We can see God’s heart for the poor and needy, as well as for widows and orphans. He shows us how much He values offerings on a harvest and the firstborn sons. Justice is important to Him. Sabbath rest for humans and animals is important, but we also learn it’s important for the land as it relates to gardening and agriculture.
He gives the Israelites three festivals to celebrate each year: 1. The Feast of Unleavened Bread to remind them of when they were delivered from Egypt. 2. The Feast of Harvest to honor God’s provision in the firstfruits of their labor. 3. The Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when they gather the fruit of their field from their labor. The LORD shares His strategic plans to give the Israelites the Promised Land, and He confirms His covenant with them at the mountain.
Here are some key takeaways for today:
- God is a God of order. He is intentional and strategic. He has created a blueprint and knows the best way to do things. His order has purpose. Life is so much better when His people choose to obey Him and follow His blueprint. Not only that, He provides a way for us to do so. You can live according to the Word of God with the help of the Holy Spirit.
- God reveals Himself to you. God is so kind that He has given you His Word. This is the primary way that He makes Himself known to you. The Scriptures are how you can know Him and learn more about Him. He wants you to know Him. As you desire Him and draw close to Him, He will draw close to you. He wants a relationship with you. (James 4:8)
- There is power in the blood. In these passages of the Old Testament, we read a lot about offerings and blood sacrifices. Blood signifies life. Blood serves as a substitute for the atonement of human sin. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. Those in the Old Testament had to offer blood sacrifices in order to be forgiven of their sins. However, in the New Testament, Jesus came and allowed His blood to be shed for the atonement of our sins. He is our blood sacrifice, and as a result of His redemptive work, our sins can be forgiven, and we can be saved. (Romans 10:9)
