Day 35 Exodus 16-18 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 35 Exodus 16-18

In today’s passages, we read about how God sends manna and quail for the Israelites to eat after they complain of a lack of food. He provides water from a rock for them after they complained of being thirsty. They had a mindset to work and labor, and God began to train them to live a life that includes Sabbath and rest.

God helps the Israelites fight the Amalekites by instructing Moses to stand on top of the hill and hold his hands up all day. This resulted in victory for the Israelites, who were led by Joshua in the battle.

Today’s reading concludes with Jethro, the priest of Midian and Moses’ father-in-law, giving Moses wise advice to delegate his responsibilities among fit, trained leaders. Jethro was a Kenite, part of the Canaanites, but when he heard of God’s faithfulness to the Israelites, he offered burnt offerings and sacrifices to God Almighty.

Here are some key takeaways for today:

  • God wants you to learn to be fully dependent on Him. He provides for you one day at a time. Hence, the daily bread (manna) that the Israelites received, and what Jesus mentions in Matthew 6:11. This can be a challenge in a culture that teaches you to be independent. So, let’s practice trusting God enough to fully rely on Him for the big and little things in life. He will never fail you.

  • When fighting against the enemy, you must be equipped spiritually and naturally. You must fight in the spirit in prayer, studying, and speaking God’s Word. But we also have responsibilities on earth as well, and we need to make sure we cover those bases. For example, in illness, prayer, faith, and God’s word are key in the spirit. Healthy diet, rest, and healthy lifestyle choices are required in the natural.

  • It’s wise to delegate and seek help when your workload is too heavy. God has not called you to be Superwoman. This is where dependence on Him helps, too. Be okay with receiving help and simplifying tasks when your workload is too heavy. Delegate chores, use paper plates, ask the Lord for help, or push a task back to a different day.

There is so much wisdom in God’s Word. Sometimes, it’s “hidden” in plain sight.
