Day 12: Job 32-34
Welcome back! It’s Day 12 of our 365-day bible reading plan!
Finally, there is a shift in the story! A man named Elihu decides to speak. He was there the whole time listening. (Job 32:4) He is angry at Job and Job’s self-righteous friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar.
Elihu points out that wisdom comes from God, not solely based on age. He rebukes Job’s friends for not offering a proper rebuttal to Job. He also rebukes Job, saying that Job is not without transgression.
Elihu explains that God allowed all the bad things to happen to lead Job toward repentance. He begins to accuse Job of the same things that the other three friends have been saying all along.
Job is very much misunderstood, especially in one of the toughest seasons in his life. Maybe you can relate. The following scripture comes to mind right now:
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12
There will be times that we as believers find ourselves misunderstood and persecuted by others simply because we desire to live a godly life. This can happen at work, with family members, friends, and in other situations. Be prepared for that. Scripture says it’s inevitable.
But also remember how Job handled being misunderstood. He remained faithful to God. He didn’t backpeddle and change his mind or go with the flow of everyone else around him. He sought God even when God was silent for a time.
Job is a great example of how to handle trials, tribulations, and being misunderstood. Never turn your back on God. No matter how hard things seem. Don’t give up. Be steadfast and know that God will never leave you! He knows how long the trial will last, He understands how painful it is, and He knows how much strength you need to get through it. It’s okay to trust Him!
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
