Day 11: Job 29-31 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 11: Job 29-31

Today, as Job continues his speech, he reflects on the days when his relationship with God was thriving. He longs for the days when he felt God’s nearness and when the friendship of God dwelt in his home.

Oh, how we as women should desire the friendship of God to dwell in our homes! In order for to achieve this, there must be trust. Trust comes from knowing someone, and in order to know God, you must spend time with Him. One way to do this is by reading His Word daily. This is why I started this grace-filled women’s bible study, and I’m so excited about it! If you’d like to join, you can do so here.

Now, back to Job. He also laments about how he lost his reputation. He used to be known for his wisdom, but now people think he’s a fool. However, the only thing that has changed is his circumstances.

Job also goes on to talk about how he has served the poor and needy, contrary to his friends’ accusations. His friends are fighting against him and kicking him while he is down. The great thing about the book of Job is that in the beginning of the book, we get to see what went on behind the scenes, in the spiritual realm. We are aware of the interaction between God and Satan. We know Job was considered righteous and faithful to God. We know Job is telling the truth.

Since Job isn’t aware of the full picture like we are, he believes that God has turned cruel toward him and is persecuting him. Job questions the character of God. While God’s character should never be in question, Job’s character needed some tweaking.

Job was blameless, but he wasn’t perfect. We all have areas of growth and change, and it appears Job has some pride and entitlement in his heart. Job’s trials in suffering were the only way that those issues of the heart could be revealed. Just as God did with Job, He uses our challenges and trials to reveal what is in our hearts, to sanctify us, prune us, and make us more like Him.

This is a grace-filled space. Come as you are. Participate as life allows. If you’d like, comment below and share something that stood out to you in today’s study—your reflection may be exactly what another sister needs to read.
