Day 10: Job 24-28 Chronological Bible Study Notes

Day 10: Job 24-28

Job continues speaking in chapter 24. He lists the injustices committed by the wicked against the poor and the needy.

Job says that it seems like murderers, thieves, and adulterers get to do what they want. And this is true, but remember that there are always consequences to bad choices and disobedience to God.

In verses 13-17, Job goes on to describe people who reject the light. We can still see the evidence of this today. But by chapter 21-22, Job does acknowledge that God destroys those in power. Even if they seem successful, they are doomed to fail.

This makes me think about seed time and harvest. Galatians 6:9 tells believers not to grow weary in well doing because we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up. However, the law of seed time and harvest applies to all. This means that those who willingly live in sin are always planting seeds of death and destruction, and in due season, they too will reap a harvest. This reminds me of the verse that says the payment for sin is death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Chapter 25 is the shortest chapter in the book of Job because it seems Bildad ran out of things to say.

In chapter 26, Job (sarcastically) congratulates Bildad on his non-existent accomplishment that he thought qualified him to tear Job apart. (Tony Evans Commentary)

Job goes on to highlight God’s majesty and power.

In verse 12, “Rahab” refers to a storm. Job’s words are prophetic. Jesus calmed the storm in Mark 4:35-41.

In chapter 27, Job declares that he will only tell the truth, and he refuses to do wrong and give up his integrity by saying that his friends are right in their false accusations. Every day, he wakes up with a clear conscience.

He continues by talking about how God treats the wicked. The wicked may prosper in this life, but an eternal judgment is coming. A lifetime of sin seems long, but it’s a breath in light of eternity.

We wrap things up for today with chapter 28. It sounds very much like the book of Proverbs. Job talks about the value of wisdom. No matter how much gold or wealth you have, you can’t buy wisdom. How can you find it? Only God understands the way. (28:23) Follow Him. How can you be wise? Fear the Lord and turn from evil.

King Solomon was probably reading Job when he wrote Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10. (Tony Evans Commentary) You have to fear the Lord to have wisdom and understanding and know how to live well in such a dark and sinful world. Take God seriously and surrender to His Word and will for your life.
