Day 6: Job 10-13 Chronological Bible Study Notes

 Day 6: Job 10-13

On Day 6, we pick up where we left off in a conversation between Job and his friends. In previous chapters, the first two friends who spoke, Eliphaz and Bildad, were trying to convince Job that he had sinned in some way, and that is why he was suffering. While they did make some valid points about God, what they were saying to Job wasn't true to his case.

Here, in Job 10-13, Job is in deep pain and despair, and he hates his life. He cries out to God.

We see Job's third friend introduced- Zophar. He is most likely the youngest of them all and the harshest. He tells Job that he sinned and that he actually deserves even worse than what he is currently experiencing. He implies that Job is worthless and stupid. He tells Job to repent, and things will get better.

However, Job still has not sinned. He is still blameless in the sight of the Lord. When Job speaks, he is sarcastic and most likely tired of his friends. He tells them that he knows and understands God, and he is not inferior to them. He confronts them about lying and speaking falsely for God.

Job wants to defend himself before God. He begs Him to reveal any sin.

These passages remind us that God sometimes allows trials and suffering for His glory or to teach us something important.

Our frustrations about God and His actions are rooted in the lie that we deserve something (The Bible Recap). It's okay to ask God tough questions, but remember that He is sovereign. Trust Him. He knows all the details and is working everything together according to His plan and for the good of the righteous. So, no matter what, persevere in your faith by putting on the full armor of God as Ephesians 6 instructs.
